Physiotherapy Team
Helen qualified from Liverpool University Hospital College in 1990 and has been working within the University Hospitals of Leicester since this time. She has been practising as an ESP ( Extended Scope Physiotherapist) within the Emergency department and Orthopaedics since 2004.
She currently works both within the Emergency Department minor injuries unit and elective Orthopaedic Shoulder and Elbow clinics and has completed the post graduate Injection therapy module.
Helen has a special interest in the improvement and development of clinical services and care pathways for patients presenting with acute shoulder injuries in the Emergency Department setting, particularly injuries related to the rotator cuff and first time shoulder dislocations. She uses this experience to develop her clinical interest in the rehabilitation of these patients. Interests being rotator cuff dysfunction, gleno-humeral instability and the adolescent unstable shoulder. She clinically supports the paediatric musculoskeletal Physiotherapy team.
She has a keen interest in research and audit, being currently involved in studies regarding identification of acute large rotator cuff tear injuries and improvement of patient care pathways. This is includes both conservative and surgical options of management. Findings of the above studies have been presented nationally and now being used to support service development and research in this area.
